Devil's Tritone

The Devil’s Tritone is a musical interval once feared for its dissonance, earning the nickname The Devil’s Interval. Made of three whole tones, its unsettling sound clashed with the ordered ideals of medieval sacred music, symbolizing chaos and the forbidden.
Over time, its unique tension became a driving force in the evolution of Western music. Composers introduced accidentals to manage its sharpness, shaping modern scales and expanding harmonic possibilities. Today, far from being shunned, the tritone adds depth and emotion to jazz, rock, and classical music, transforming its discord into a source of creative power.
The music and concept in this animation is inspired by this tritone and the deconstruction of Bosch’s vision of Hell.
