This is 1:35 minute snippet from the 17:15 song "Long Story Short" (Day 10)[Part I] which was the second to last song created in the series in 2020, before revisiting this series and this session one last time in early 2021 and adding a touch of "Evolving Portals" to the final track in the series "Long Story Short" (Day 10) [Hiatus - Part II]

This one take, long form documented series was birthed in 2014 in Upstate New York, After reuniting w/ my pops "Ziggy" on a secluded mountain "Sam's Point Nature Preserve"

Long Story Short, We had not spoken in over a decade prior to that visit that turned into a year living together, healing wounds, and bonding...

We both talk a lot....  Long Winded..      I must get it from my pops because the most common phrase that comes out of his mouth is "Long Story Short"

This series was born after taking turns playing each other music that we loved..  He was putting me on to his abstract Jazz Fusion and Folk, Prog Rock Collection, and I was putting him onto hip-hop, and I obviously made a lot of music while there.

One day he said,

"Dutch, I really dig your music, but I don't understand what your doing, you're not playing an instrument, your just sampling other peoples music"
⬛I did my best to show him I turned Samples into instruments, but he kept taunting me.... ⬛So I said ⬛⬛💬"Bet!. I don't know music theory and don't play instruments (other than the drums) but let's turn this into a fun challenge you can witness as it happens"  ⬛

So on October 1st, 2014...    "Long Story Short" (Day One) was created in front of him, in real time, one take, fumbling through the unknown and recording the entire process.

I would dabble with the series over the next few years, all using the same process...   One Take, Long Form, Improv Sessions Documented.

This unlocked my affinity for creating live, in the moment in completely unknown territory.  I had already been freestyling since the mid 90's, but something about recording these long form sessions lit my neurons on fire in a way, intentionally creating and finalizing a track no longer did.

...and around mid 2018, "Evolving Portals" began, A Series with the same principle and methods applied, only I do this with creating instrumentals in the DAW...

I still make "normal/digestible" music, but honestly, I'd rather just enter the flow state and have fun experimenting in the great unknown and documenting the entire process.
