Three of us hold a strip of fabric within an architectural structure. Using our hands and bodies to create tension and carry the material, a line is drawn. Suddenly, something shifts, and the fabric is no longer captured by a camera, instead existing within a virtual environment. With no one holding it, it floats aimlessly, becoming a fluid.
A fascinating idea about video is that -as a technical image- it has to register something that happened somewhere, sometime: be it a tactile action interpreted by a camera sensor, a shuffling of data in an AI server, or a digital composition of shapes in a virtual space. In this way, our artistic practice is constantly trying to bridge the physical and digital realms, collaboratively.
This piece is part of the LATAM Culture Builders collection, which emphasizes the dialogue between artists working in the blockchain and their identities as cultural creators in the real world. As of right now, the video currently exists as an object made by [vtv], in an exhibit in Buenos Aires along with amazing artists, all invited by Newtro (<3)
About the collection and how to win the artwork:
"LATAM CULTURE BUILDERS is a collection curated by Newtro that redefines the role of the BUILDER on the internet, creating a space for artists and cultural managers to reflect on their impact in the emerging web3 culture. This reflection fosters the development of more sovereign identities and cultural expressions.
Adopting new technologies is part of a global dialogue, enabling the development of sovereign identities. Tokenizing art, forming communities, collaborating, teaching, and incorporating emerging technologies are key aspects of this decentralized network of cultural managers, artists, and communicators, who are advancing blockchain technology adoption from Latin America to the world.
